Dead Prez " The Beauty Within" (Official Video).mov
So I WAS a fan of the Willow Smith Video "whip my hair" for a few weeks, but that got skurred out of me by my husband, our babysitter and Natalie & Lenny. Okay maybe she is a little inappropriate for 9 years old. But this one I LOVE...
Please share with our youngest female family members: Rebecca, Summer, Sasha, let them soak in the love that they'll never get from the Disney channel. Courtesy, Dead Prez:

CLASSICS
Found some priceless photos of the past recently. These should trigger some great memories for the old ones, and new insights for the young uns'.

For the longest time Colleen was the ONLY girl in the family. No wonder she has to hide under the covers...and here comes Mr. Shelly with a ball. Wonder who he is going to throw that at???

A captain finds his mate
Nice Family, but they need another GIRL - don't worry...hope is on the way!!!
I especially love this photo. There are all kinds of family tree extensions going on here, and one "Adopt-ee" LUIS, shelly used to bring him home from college. We got Aunts, cousins, in-laws... But they are all under Norman's roof, at Norman' table, eating Lunette's cooking (well aunt merle was probably throwing in some game too by this point), and following Norman and Lunette's rules, no exceptions. If you were there, you were family.

Spring Break April 2011
Hey Fam -
So a few of us had a chance to get together at camp LULU this spring break. We had loads of fun...here a few pics and videos you can see how big everyone is!!!

The Easter Egg hunt. Thanks for thinking of it Auntie Adonna!
Yvonne couldn't help herself from getting caught up in the egg hunt:

Charmaine and Roddie cooked up a massive BBQ - Caden, Lashima's son was in the house too:

Rebecca is such a beautiful girl, inside and out.

Our wonderful neighbors, Angelo & Kim showed up to teach the kids to play a lil' TEXAS hold 'em. I think Emmanuel won.

Neville was maxin' and relaxin':

Cousin Pam, from Toronto, was also in town. It was so nice to see her again.

Emmanuel so good in the pool.
Spent lots of time at the beach.

oliver almost drives cart into the pond-if only his dad remembered that driving on a video game not the same as letting your 5 year old drive in real life!
Evan's valiant effort to swing a golf club:
going to practice that golf thing. Evan is the only Florida golfer who wears black shirt, black shorts, black hightops

Meditation from Shelly
Our church hired a new minister 6 months ago. When the family came up for Corbin's graduation everybody wanted to go to church, so we went. Well Sarah and I didn't know that our church had chosen a new minister and his appearance at the pulpit was news to us. Colleen and Sarah did not like his appearance or his oratory style. To them, he seemed a little to “hip n’ slick.” Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but in my opinion, everybody is also entitled to a fair opportunity.
Our church has been in this community for more than 50 years and during those years has borne tremendous fruit. Internationally known scholars, spiritual, political, and academic leaders are among some of the many who have come from my church. Our board made a careful and well thought out decision when they chose Pastor Jim. I felt strongly that we could not give him a fair assessment by coming late to the service (totally my fault) and hearing him for the first time for 20 minutes. Just like with Barrack, I may not know all the input with his decisions but there comes a time when you just have to trust the system or the person and I do.
I went to church one Sunday. The subject of Rev. Jim's sermon was, "Michigander's are Evolved People". He began by quoting many of the negative statistics that we all hear nationwide about Detroit: high crime, unemployment, foreclosures....etc. Then he told us that it doesn’t matter how negative and helpless you may feel the situation is, always give thanks.
For it is there that we may find the necessary vision, or enlightenment that motivates us to the next level and advised us to therefore:
o Choose gratitude over drama.
o Be thankful,
o Don't dramatize the negative.
He cautioned us not to deny the accuracy of the statistical facts, but what we should also deny about these facts is that they have any power over us. We have power in our thoughts .We are an evolved people that have been through it. If too many things are coming at you in a bad way, too fast, too furious, then get the hell out of that lane, your in the wrong lane.
We can become prisoners of our consciousness. Someone once said first you must believe it, then see it, then take action, your action becomes habit, and ultimately your habit becomes your destiny.
I was very distraught because I had to go to the hospital for exploratory procedures. I was negative. I remembered the Rev's sermon and found reason to give thanks. After the doctors did their thing I was released the next day. Walking into work I was on the phone talking to a cal- in radio DJ. I walked at a very brisk pace while carrying a heavy piece of luggage. Prior to my procedure at the hospital, I could have NEVER done this. I would have been too out of breath.
ALWAYS!!! find reason to give thanks, no matter the circumstance.

"Rocking Back" - bigsis 'Neen
Flashback Friday:
It started with Shelly, intensified with Neville and became a full-scale disappointment “melt down” by the time Lenny, “another boy,” was born. I did, of course, love all of my brothers, but more than anything, I WANTED A LITTLE SISTER!
The desire for one had by the eve of Robin’s birth become irrationally intense.
My ever loving and much loved father understood this very well. He witnessed my years of patience as he doled out the unwanted gender news on the Reid additions. He was sympathetic to my longing.
The second girl, the of course never to be loved as much as me, but nevertheless, beloved, LITTLE SISTER finally arrived in our family. Daddy kindly gave me the honor of naming her. I was well prepared.
Those were, if you dare to recall, the “hey days” of the “Jackson Five” and even though we Reids could rarely ever listen to the radio, unless it was “God-related’ or being conducted by Leonard Bernstein, I still managed to fall in love with those few moments of stolen airtime being filled by the “J5!” They made us proud and they could sure dance and “sang.” In addition to the joy they gave me, Michael and his brothers remain, to this day, the best performers of one of my favorite songs.
Since the mixture of salty tears and mascara are a dangerous combo for driving, quite unexpectedly, I wound up having to pull my car off the road one night during the week following the death of Michael Jackson. On my car radio he was singing my favorite song and the inspiration for my first and only LITTLE Sister’s name, “Rockin’ Robin!”
I realized then that Michael Jackson was more than a just dead “pop star” to me. Fond memories were built during my formative years on his amazing talents. Robin’s name came from the song “Rockin’ Robin and when I told Daddy he confessed that it was also one of his favorite songs too.
Michael, regardless of his faults and oddities was with his enormous gifts, a part of the fabric of our lives. His music was probably the last music pop music that reached and touched so many people, because it was “pre-Russell Simmons” clean music. Most importantly, it touched my sister before she could say, Michael Jackson. Think about it, it’s probably the reason my long awaited LITTLE SISTER, really Rocks!
