Flashback Friday
Easter Sunday preparation came this year with the usual list of “to dos,” you know:
1. Make sure Evan learns his recitation for the Sunday School program
2. Buy him a pair of pants that are longer than the high waters he’s been wearing
3. Scour the already pathetic selections in my closet for something that fits and doesn't look like I'm hoping for a longer winter and most importantly,
4. Buy all of the ingredients needed for a good pancake breakfast.
While pancake breakfasts are served year round in my house, I start smelling and tasting Easter morning pancakes on Maundy Thursday. What is it about Easter morning pancakes that illicits anything but, this “Christ-centered” response to Easter for me? Daddy, yes Normie -the Master flapjacker.
Every Easter Daddy would break out the pans and the pancake mix to make the best pancakes, ever, with ham! It was an even greater treat for us to see Daddy cooking and enjoying preparing it. It was uncommon, "back in the day," to see your father cooking anything including pancakes.
After our family joined Northminster Presbyterian Church, I was a little resentful at Easter time because we started attending their traditional Easter “sunrise” breakfast. It was nice, but –no Daddy in an apron, no pancakes, only my sweet flashbacks.
Love,
Neen
